Fortnite patch notes: update 8.30 adds Reboot Vans and treasure-filled Buccaneer's Bounty event

Fortnite update 8.30 has arrived, and it's ushered in a new revive-savvy era. Fortnite Battle Royale now features Reboot Vans, which work similarly to the respawn ships in Apex Legends. By collecting a fallen teammate's Reboot Tag and delivering it to a Reboot Van, you can bring them back into the fight. Here's everything in the latest Fortnite patch notes.

Reboot Vans will appear at "all major [points of interest]," Epic says, but will not be available in solos, big team modes, or - obviously - modes with respawning enabled. Once you collect a teammate's Reboot Card - within 90 seconds of their death, because they will despawn - you'll need to head to a Reboot Van. That said, Reboot Cards can be turned in by any surviving teammates, not just the person who picks them up.

It only takes half a second to pick up a card, but using a van takes a full ten seconds, and you'll be wide open during that time. If you successfully use a van, that van will be disabled for two minutes and your rebooted teammate(s) will return brandishing a pistol with 36 light ammo, and with 100 wood in their inventories. So they won't be totally helpless, but they'll definitely be hungry for gear.

Fortnite patch notes: update 8.30 adds Reboot Vans and treasure-filled Buccaneer's Bounty event

Apart from Reboot Vans, the biggest addition in update 8.30 is the Buccaneer's Bounty event, which will feature new Limited Time Modes everyday through April 15, each with new free challenges attached to them. This being a pirate event and all, treasure maps will be roughly twice as common during Buccaneer's Bounty.

There are also a few handy quality of life changes and bug fixes in the update. You can read the full list here, and I've picked out some highlights below.

  • "Added separate controller sensitivities for building and editing structures."
  • "Added ability to cycle hotbar items while gliding."
  • "Hit markers are now server authoritative - We’ve heard the feedback that hit markers are sometimes seen for shots but don't apply damage, so we’re going to delay showing them until the server has confirmed the hit."
  • "Fixed an issue where players would incorrectly edit structure behind them when backed up close to a player built wall."
